Within the Centre for International Law Youna focuses on marine environmental governance, law and policy in ASEAN. She has a particular interest in climate change impact on ASEAN coastal and marine systems and national legal and policy implementation of Integrated Coastal Management. Her interests are multi-disciplinary, integrating science, law, governance and economics.

Prior to this, Youna created and led the private international law practice of the Litigation and Arbitration Group at Clifford Chance (Paris office); one of the world’s leading law firms, for more than 12 years. Passionate about the ocean, Youna later studied marine sciences and holds a Masters in Marine Affairs from the University of Washington.

Youna’s knowledge of business, marine policy and marine ecology has led her to promote the benefit of public-private partnership and communication between the science and the business worlds. One application has been to investigate business risks arising from the loss of coastal and marine ecosystem services in the context of global change.

She is bilingual French and English, has worked across Europe, the U.S. and Asia and, besides her Masters in Marine Affairs, holds an LLM and two Bachelors from La Sorbonne respectively in international public and private law and in procedural law.
