Mayla holds an LLM in International and Comparative Law from the National University of Singapore, an LLB from Mindanao State University, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science from the Ateneo de Manila University. Her research interests include international and comparative law, ASEAN law and practice, and environmental law and policy. Prior to CIL, Mayla worked in policy and project management for the ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity, DOE-UNDP-GEF Philippine Efficient Lighting Market Transformation Project, Sarangani Provincial Government-Environmental Conservation and Protection Center, and the Senate of the Philippines.
